Jack Green. With more than 180,000 hectares the province of Huelva contributes towards Andalucia’s leadership of organic production in Spain with 949.025,27 hectares (hc) and 10.180 operators – 988 farmer’s markets, manufacturers, importers and merchants are registered in the Onubense province.
The data that was handed to the Ministry for Agriculture, Fish and Environment showed that the biggest earners were olive groves (54,000 hc), cereal crops (51,000 hc) and nuts and grains (34,000 hc). Other notable groups of cultivation that made an impact were pulses, vegetables and citrus fruits.
Over 335,600 people work within Huelva’s renowned iberian meat production. A lot of the areas where the production in Andalucia takes place are certified areas, more than 586,000 acres are used. Most of these are situated in the Sierra of Aracena and Picos de Aroche. Pastoral farming also prevents forest fires in the parks.
The sub sectors that also benefit from the wealth of the farming are firms that package and process farm goods (210 companies), mills (188 open) and the manufacture of canned vegetables and juices. The main companies within the sub sector that offer organic products from Andalucia cover all types of businesses; wineries, aromatic herbs, pastries, handling and packaging of nuts and grains, fresh and cold meat and dairy products.
