Jack Green. While it is a fact that has been around before, today we recall that since 2007 Huelva has been named the sunniest place in Spain. It has an average total of 3,120 hours of sun per year.
The total hours is more than double that of Bilbao. These statistics have been released by the National Institute of Statistics, other cities such as Malaga, Toledo, Granada and Cadiz were the only other cities to pass 3,000 hours of sun.
In general, the Andalucian provinces are the sunniest in the country, at the opposite end of the scale the dullest places were Bilbao with 1,453 hours of sun, San Sebastian – 1,735, Santander – 1,839 and Santiago de Compostela – 1,958. With regards to temperatures, The Canaries Isles showed off their nickname “The Fortunate Isles”, with Santa Cruz de Tenerife having an average of 21.6 degrees.
The coldest places were Soria, Leon and Burgos, where the average temperature was just over 10 degrees. Seville had the highest average temperature with 29.1 degrees in July and Burgos barely exceeded 2.6 degrees in December.
