Jack Green. Among the various initiatives being achieved in Huelva, the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) saw the focus of 19th October take a priority around World Breast Cancer day. It saw a collaboration of shops from the centre of Huelva give information about the disease. Some women were recommended to attend a mammogram appointment with the Health Service for Andalucia.
In this year’s campaign against Breast Cancer, the AECC in Huelva asked for the support of shops in the centre of the city. Around 40 stores went under the slogan “Join in the Pink”, dressing their window displays in the colour commemorating the day. The AECC in Huelva wanted to reach out and say thank you to all of the shops that participated (Entretelas, La Gitanilla, Bulerias, El Ajoli…), and with a great appreciation for being some of the campaign’s messengers in the importance to help prevent the disease for women.
The AECC in Huelva wanted to remind the public that it was the pioneer in the prevention and early diagnosis of Breast Cancer, starting it’s path in the province in 1978 (in Hospital Blanca Paloma) with the Early Diagnosis Centre. The activity from this centre stopped in 2011 when The Andalucian Health Service took over responsibility.
The AECC in Huelva focuses on all of its resources and strengths in the prevention of cancer in every method possible. Through passing information by word of mouth, living a healthy life highlighting this through campaigns in schools and helping people to stop smoking.
